Question 2021

edit

Hi :) How did you know they were going to use something proprietary? I mean here: 2021 talk:Registration#About registration (period, free software, ..). Maybe I'm not following the right "channels". I was not aware of it. Thank you! --Valerio Bozzolan (talk) 10:50, 9 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hello Varlio, it was something I did not know but from my expierences from the past and after attending at the talk during the Wikimedia Hackathon this year about Wikimedia Social Suite I thought that it can happen. This has something to do with the time that is needed to set up a external service from in this case Eventbrite for registration in relation the time needed and the costs that occure during setting up and hosting a free solution. I will write a bit more on the Registration talk page.--Hogü-456 (talk) 13:23, 9 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

Quiz generation

edit

Following up on your question at Wikimania 2021 Hackathon: I remember User:Charles Matthews presented a tool that generated quizzes from Wikimedia content at a meetup a few years ago. Maybe you can adapt his tool for your purpose. Deryck Chan (talk) 16:38, 13 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

That was the Wikisoba tool, designed to use sections of Wikipedia articles, and then to test comprehension of that. You can see something about it at w:User:Charles Matthews/Wikisoba repository. It is based on the w:GIFT (file format) syntax. I'd be happy to talk more about this. Charles Matthews (talk) 16:47, 13 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
Hello User:Charles Matthews, I am interested in Queries and their automatical creation and through the Hackathon there was a talk about Quarry and how it could be improved and through that talk I said it is maybe possible to generate out of the known relations of the database tables possible questions for what a query could be needed. This is something I thought about after the publishing of the Wikimedia Foundation Annual Plan 2021/2022. At this plan one goal is to describe the internal data structures. Do you have outside of Wikisoba expierence with automatical question generation and do you think it is possible to generate questions based on known relations of database tables.--Hogü-456 (talk) 20:11, 16 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Hogü-456: I don't have personal experience of question generation, but I certainly think it is possible. The issues that came to concern me were about format for questions. It is not hard to put questions online, as HTML forms, but what format would allow reuse? (Moodle XML is one possibility, but it is not the perfect answer.) Can one use a Wikibase site to create a repository of questions, so that queries can be run to find lists of questions? Magnus Manske's Comprende tool is one answer: http://magnusmanske.de/wordpress/?p=446.
In other words, what is the good target for question generation? Charles Matthews (talk) 03:16, 17 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
