2021 talk:Registration
About registration (period, free software, ..)
editHello, when will the registration start. There are now a few weeks until Wikimania and I think for making sure that the people who want to attend can do that it is imporant that the period open for registration is long enough after maybe some people are at vacation in the next weeks and while that period then not online. Please try to use no Googleform for Registration. I prefer a at Wikimedia Foundation self hosted open source or free software tool like LimeSurvey. From my point of view that should be possible to use and there are people who can help you set it up. --Hogü-456 (talk) 20:08, 2 July 2021 (UTC)
- @Hogü-456: A link to Eventbrite (proprietary) came out today so this comment ↑ hasn't been read. Let's move here: 2021 talk:Organizers#Suggestions about migrating from Eventbrite --Valerio Bozzolan (talk) 10:03, 9 July 2021 (UTC)
- As said above, could the COT provide an official (temporary?) way to participate in Wikimania without using Eventbrite? Even just something like "Those who do not agree to Eventbrite's terms and conditions, please write a kind request to user FooBar and we will try to add you among the guests" in a visible place. If there is I apologize but I couldn't find it. Thank you so much :( --Valerio Bozzolan (talk) 08:51, 23 July 2021 (UTC)
- Up. Is there a temporary solution for people like me and User:Hogü-456 to attend without Eventbrite? So we can participate. I posed this question in this wiki, on Telegram chat, to the WMF staff, to COT members, ecc. Can someone please respond? Thank you! --Valerio Bozzolan (talk) 14:29, 2 August 2021 (UTC)
- @VPadilla (WMF) and Ms Kabintie: and other organizers, can someone answer to the kind user Hogü-456, saying "no it's not possible to participate without Eventbrite" or "yes, it's possible, contact xxx"? Thank you so much. Please note also the below discussion about the revelation of real identity. Thank you so much! --Valerio Bozzolan (talk) 13:13, 4 August 2021 (UTC)

- A related point: Having had my registration confirmed with EventBrite two weeks ago, I see that their confirmation email states "The organizer will follow up with instructions on how to redeem your ticket and access the event." My plea is that an announcement is made here once those full instructions have been sent out, so that we all know whether or not the required information should have arrived. It's pointless looking for potentially missed emails that have not actually been sent yet. Nick Moyes (talk) 14:16, 7 August 2021 (UTC)
- UPDATE: I have now received the hoped-for email with details for using the REMO Virtual Event Platform to attend the various presentations. Nick Moyes (talk) 10:37, 10 August 2021 (UTC)
Full name
editAm I required to put in my full name? I don't really feel comfortable disclosing my name, whether it's stored confidentially or not. Berrely (talk) 12:54, 15 July 2021 (UTC)
- @Berrely: The registration form has these required questions: first and last name, email (you have to put these twice: into your contact info and ticket info), where you live (no options, so you can write whatever you want), and what year you began contributing. Wiki username and other info is optional. Now, do you have to use your real name, I guess that's up to you... -kyykaarme (talk) 10:20, 19 July 2021 (UTC)
- I'm moving this question to the 2021:Help desk and will answer there. Sorry that we didn't notice the question before! Effeietsanders (talk) 15:43, 10 August 2021 (UTC)
Privacy question: purpose of data collection
edit@EMagallanes (WMF): Hi! Thank you for your contribution on wmf:Wikimania 2021 Registration Form Privacy Statement. I noticed that in its talk page there is a question I was interested in asked by the kind User:Ainali. Here:
Do you know the answer? or do you know someone who could help answering there? Thank you so much! --Valerio Bozzolan (talk) 08:07, 6 August 2021 (UTC)
Registration late
editI hadn't realised there was a need for registration, and now it appears registration is closed :( I doubt I'm the only one. Dsp13 (talk) 14:28, 13 August 2021 (UTC)
- Same here - I'd actually had my name put down for the community village, and got a table, but didn't know I had to register separately to access the event. Now I worry I won't be able to staff the table, let alone get other volunteers to help out. Why does registration have to end for an online event? Heck, even most in-person conventions let you register during the event, at least the ones I've been to. GreenReaper (talk) 18:35, 13 August 2021 (UTC)
- I am in the process of resolving this via the general Wikimania Telegram channel, although I gather it is a manual process - if anyone else is in this situation, it'd be best to reach out sooner than later. GreenReaper (talk) 21:02, 13 August 2021 (UTC)
