Winnie Kabintie, Journalist, Gender Advocate, Wikipedia Editor

About Me

I'm a Wikipedia Editor and Community Organizer based in Kenya, passionate about championing Media and Information literacy, Gender Equity, Human Rights and Social Change. I enjoy writing biographies [ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martha%20Koome] of notable women in Africa on EnWiki.

I also mobilized a community to form the new Wikimedia Community Usergroup Kenya, which was formally recognised as an affiliate in 2022.

I joined the Wikipedia Community in September 2019, during the East Africa Strategy Summit 2019, in Kampala, where I got to learn more about the movement and as a free knowledge champion, I was definitely hooked! I'm more active in English Wikipedia where key among other things I'm keen on bridging the gender gap on Wikipedia by contributing more content on women and mentoring fellow young women in Kenya to join the Wikimedia Community.
