Daily schedule info

edit

Is more information available about the schedule. Right now it just says "14–18 August 2019" but in previous years the schedule consisted of lighter/optional "pre-conference" days and more days. Is it still 2 pre-conference days vs 3 conference days? Is there a rough idea about what will each day's agenda be? Not everyone has the flexibility to attend all days, trying to figure out the most effective travel plan for me. ObscureOvercooked21 (talk) 18:53, 16 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

@ObscureOvercooked21: I'm trying to clarify these parts. Please give us feedback if you think there are more things missing. Eric Luth (WMSE) (talk) 08:42, 17 May 2019 (UTC)Reply
@Eric Luth (WMSE): Thanks, that helps a lot. Is it possible to add a rough description of the pre-conference days agenda at this point? Or is it still being planned? ObscureOvercooked21 (talk) 22:37, 17 May 2019 (UTC)Reply
This is my first Wikimedia conference and I am unsure if I should register for the pre-conference days or not. I am not a highly technical person on Wikipedia, more a "content" person but I am interested in teaching others about Wikipedia editing, building up communities and working on grants. I looked at the page for last year (2018) to decipher if the learning days would be for me (here). But I am still unsure. I appreciate that the program may not be finalised yet but the problem is that the early bird registration deadline is ending in a few days, so I need to decide before then if I purchase the ticket for the pre-conference days. Help? EMsmile (talk) 10:50, 24 May 2019 (UTC)Reply
@Eric Luth (WMSE): Could you still answer my query from 24 May please, or someone else? EMsmile (talk) 04:46, 29 May 2019 (UTC)Reply
@EMsmile: Apologies for my slow reply. I had a week off last week. @Wittylama:, what would you say? The pre-conference days consist to a large part of the hackathon and the learning days, which are not finalized yet. There will also be a range of side activities, such as a Culture Crawl and some editathons. There will most likely also be meetings of different sorts arranged by attendees themselves. The main programmatic parts are on the main conference days. Eric Luth (WMSE) (talk) 09:29, 30 May 2019 (UTC)Reply
I'd say EMsmile you sound like the kind of person who wants to be involved in 'all the things'! So - do it, and sign up to learning days. Wittylama (talk) 11:10, 30 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

Childcare for attendees

edit

Attendance of people with families would be easily facilitated if the event could offer childcare solutions. As a new Wikimedia contributor and researcher I'd very much like to participate in this event. Unfortunately my ability to travel is limited by my responsibilities as a parent. I'm sure I am not the only person in this position. Has child care been a consideration of the planning committee? Mcbrarian (talk) 13:17, 30 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

@Mcbrarian: Unfortunately we are not able, of logistical reasons, to offer child care for Wikimania this year. It's a pity, but I hope you manage to find a solution in some way! Eric Luth (WMSE) (talk) 07:14, 7 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
@Eric Luth (WMSE): Is there an age limit for registering/attending, as such? Tommy Kronkvist (talk), 12:26, 14 June 2019 (UTC).Reply
@Tommy Kronkvist: No age limit as such. Eric Luth (WMSE) (talk) 08:32, 9 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

Safety

edit

Where should I contact when I feel unsafe during event (not that of calling LE right away but FSP violation)? Will this information distributed on checkin? Or should it be noted here? — regards, Revi 17:06, 8 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the input! It may be a good point to add that here too, as you say. It will definitely be communicated at the conference, in various ways. Eric Luth (WMSE) (talk) 08:31, 9 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
