Session title: What was the Organizer Lab and What next?

Session type: Lightning talk
Track: Community Health

A short talk on what we learned from the Organizer Lab, and how we plan to keep developing training related to organizing in the Wikimedia Movement.

Description

edit

We have had two successful iterations of the Organizer Lab in 2022-23, and 2023-24, where the Wikimedia Foundation trained medium-experienced organizers in cohorts, with the focus of making them better at designing topics-for-impact campaigns. The hope was that the training would introduce more organizers to the pipeline of leaders involved in campaign organizing in the Wikimedia movement, where successful international campaigns tend to be concentrated in hyper experienced, long term organizers.

In this talk, I will explain the initial framework we approached the training, what we learned worked in terms of both content and design, and how we plan to make the content from the training more widely available in the coming year.

How does your session relate to the event theme, Collaboration of the Open?

Campaign organizing is the main way that Wikimedia communities create pathways to introduce new audiences and topics to the Wikimedia movement. Because of campaign organizing, knowledge gaps that would otherwise be ignored have become more visible, and easier to close -- with new partners, participants and communities involved in the process.

What is the experience level needed for the audience for your session?

This session is for an experienced audience
