2024:Program/Imagine a world in which every citation is generated from Wikidata
Session title: Imagine a world in which every citation is generated from Wikidata
- Session type: Lightning talk
- Track: Open Data
- Language: en
Having most bibliographical entries on Wikidata will not only provide better citations on Wikipedia but also attract new contributors from elsewhere.
Description
editUntil now, references on Wikipedia's in Visual Editor were created from other databases and Zotero was scrapping them and participants improving by hand in their Zotero desktop library. However, since a while Visual Editor's Citoid can generate a citation using Wikidata's QID and Zotero desktop with Zotero browser plugin can move citations back and forward, not so many people are aware of. On this lighting talk I will point it out, and also mention Czech National Library which provided their bibliography for Wikidata as one of the good practices, which will lead to better references on Wikipedia or attracting new contributors from research community.
- How does your session relate to the event theme, Collaboration of the Open?
Since bibliographical entries are usually public domain and some research communities tend to move towards open principles we are following for the last 20+ years, this topic falls under the slogan Collaboration of the Open as different domains of openness can collaborate in here for the common good.
- What is the experience level needed for the audience for your session?
Everyone can participate in this session
