2023 talk:Tech Subcommittee
interested
editHi! I can not plan to big amounts of work, but interested to collaborate on this as I develop similar for Queering Wikipedia. --Zblace (talk) 16:35, 8 January 2023 (UTC)
- I just discovered this thanks to ZBlace. I'm also interested in discovering how to join and help (useful resources from previous years that would be nice to do not ignore: 2021:Present and future and 2022:Present and future) Valerio Bozzolan (talk) 16:53, 8 January 2023 (UTC)
- Great! In QW we can plan for an online workshop with people who are interested and informed specifically over delivery of (FLOSS centered) hybrid events, media and communication handling. Maybe to do it sometimes on the weekend 20-22 of January? Or weekdays are an option also? @Valerio Bozzolan @Fuzheado @Pharos @Ainali would you be interested and available? (we could plan across timezones depending on who is eager to join) --Zblace (talk) 06:07, 12 January 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks Zblace I will do my best to participate in your dates. Having said that Wikimania COT/Stearling should participate with a positive preconception like "In order to Free people, what FLOSS software is worth investing in". Avoiding the preconception "show me FLOSS, and if FLOSS is perfectly amazing and working for me, I will probably think more about FLOSS" because this last negative assumption would be a pulled brake, and a bit offensive at this time. Clarifications
editThe following are copied from Special:Diff/223211, added on the page by Valerio Bozzolan:
In the responsibilities section:
> Recommendation of the online platforms
Clarification needed: for this point please add explicit sub-point "following the indications from the m:Movement Strategy in removing digital barriers, complying with the laws (GDPR, copyright, etc.) and handling the problem of massive digital surveillance" or is probably that another problematic platform will be chosen, without positive technological influence. Also, make sure that the tech sub committee has access to documents related to the available budget.
- As written in the Considerations section, we are looking for platforms that are compliant to GDPR, PDPA, and by extension, compliant to the necessary/applicable regulations. In the RfP, we are looking for a privacy first platform, with points 3 and 4 of the General Requirements, to exclude third party analytics tracking platforms, and to respect the user's rights for any first party tracking. With regards to the choice or recommendation of platform(s), we wish for a user friendly platform and clean user experience, thus we do not want to restrict ourselves to just free/libre software if there is proprietary platform(s) that allow us to deliver a relatively better experience to participants without trading off on user privacy and data protection. If proprietary platform(s) is/are choosen by the COT, we do so in hopes that there will be takeaways from there for our tech community to work on. On access to documents to the available budget, relevant information will be shared with the subcomm where possible. Robertsky (talk) 18:00, 12 January 2023 (UTC)
> Video uploads onto Commons and YouTube
Clarification needed: it seems somebody already decided that YouTube is a MUST requirement, but this is supposed to be a reccomendation of the Tech Sub Committee...
- This is part of what comes after a talk is concluded, not during the talk itself (for that, we have the video streaming portion in the RfP). The video recordings will be uploaded to WMF-related channel(s), including Wikimania's channel. Every platform has their own audiences, with YouTube being one of the largest. It would be disingenious to set up barriers upon on ourselves and not have it bring in for us new editors passively. Robertsky (talk) 18:00, 12 January 2023 (UTC)
> Invites to join subcomm
Clarification needed: the selection process will be the most critical part. Clarify conflicts of interests. Clarify that any person related to companies providing event solutions should not come up with its own proprietary solution.
- If there are COIs, we expect the subcomm members to declare. Evaluations of any platforms will be done openly among the subcomm and if there's any COI, the COT will be made known to them during the selection. Evaluation documents may be made public at an appropriate time. Robertsky (talk) 18:00, 12 January 2023 (UTC)
