Abstract

How I became a Wikiwoman and why community is so important

Description

This is a true story about me, and how I started editing in Wikipedia. Before I started editing, I knew nothing about Wikipedia.
For someone like me who grew up in a kibbutz, community was always an important part of my life. We have a strong community of editors here in Israel that meet in person, and that is part of the reason that I am the Wikiwoman that I am today!

Qn. How does your session relate to the event themes: Diversity, Collaboration Future?

Our wikiwomen main idea is to try and take care of the gender gap, and encourage more women to take an active part in the different Wikimedia projects. By creating an existing, supporting community for women we strive to reduce the gender gap and make the Hebrew Wikipedia a warm place for women writing.
