Rosie Stephenson-Goodknight

Rosie is a member of the WMF Board of Trustees, serving as the chair of its Talent & Culture Committee. She is also a Visiting Scholar at Northeastern University (Boston) where she focuses on pre-20th-century women writers and their works. She’s a long-time editor in English Wikipedia, Commons, and Wikidata, and a co-founder of Women in Red, a virtual community that focuses on improving Wikipedia’s content gender gap. She has led many editing and training events, served on organizing teams for various Wikimedia conferences, and spoken widely about Wikimedia projects. In 2018, Rosie was knighted in part for her Wikipedia work. I am a Vanj Padilla, Juris Doctor and a Filipino Wikimedian. I have been a volunteer community founder and organizer since 2009, from Google Business Group to Pangasinan ICT Council, Pangasinan Scholars, Pangasinan and Norte Bloggers and Shared Knowledge Asia Pacific. I have organized, led and designed events and built strategic partners with NGOs, the business sector, the media, the academe, government instrumentalities and corporate partners local and international. I have also been granted scholarships, sponsorships and overseas training from Google, Stanford Graduate School of Business, MaGiC Malaysia and Foundation for Community Educational Media. The knowledge I am about to share are learnings I have gained from the entities that have given me a chance to hack my own growth as well my community.

The Wikiwomen Summit will be a gathering, which has been co-designed in feminist solidarity, focused on gender inclusion and equality. The events under this banner will take place at Wikimania Singapore 2023.

WikiWomen Summit is a gathering, which has been co-designed in feminist solidarity, focused on gender inclusion and equality in the Wikimedia movement. The Summit aims to create a safe and inclusive space to share strategies, debate, reflect and forge alliances and common agendas. The Summit will feature several events organized by and for gender organizers and contributors in the movement, including panels, learning sessions, a Women’s Lunch, and an opportunity for all interested parties and allies to help shape our collective strategy for closing the gender gap and building an inclusive Wikimedia movement.

The Summit will cover the following topics:

Introduction to WikiWomen Summit: What is WikiWomen Summit and why is it important? You will learn about the history, goals, and format of WikiWomen Summit, and how it differs from other gender events in the Wikimedia movement.

Celebrating WikiWomen: How to celebrate the work of making the Wikimedia movement more gender equitable and inclusive. You will learn about the achievements, challenges, and best practices of gender organizers and contributors in the movement. You will also learn how to recognize and appreciate the diversity and intersectionality of gender identities and experiences in the movement.

Collaborating with WikiWomen: How to collaborate with other gender organizers and contributors on specific topics or tasks. You will learn how to join and contribute to WikiProjects, campaigns, events, and initiatives that focus on gender inclusion and equality. You will also learn how to use various tools and resources to enhance your collaboration experience and productivity.

Strategizing with WikiWomen: How to strategize with other gender organizers and contributors on closing the gender gap and building an inclusive Wikimedia movement. You will learn how to identify and prioritize the key issues, challenges, and opportunities for gender inclusion and equality in the movement. You will also learn how to develop and implement effective actions, solutions, and recommendations for addressing these issues.

The Summit is designed for gender organizers and contributors who have some prior experience with Wikimedia projects or gender work. It is suitable for anyone who is interested in learning more about WikiWomen Summit and gender inclusion and equality.
