Abstract

edit

Wikifunctions has [hopefully] just launched. We will discuss where the first new Wikimedia project in ten years is now, where it is going, and how you can take part.

Description

edit

Wikifunctions, the first new Wikimedia project in ten years, provides a form of knowledge new to Wikimedia: a library of functions, to be collaboratively maintained and used in many different contexts.

Functions can reliably answer questions that have never been asked before. In this panel session we will discuss what works today and our plans for the future, including how Wikifunctions will provide opportunities to support the work in their home projects and support the Abstract Wikipedia project. Together we will learn what our shared hopes and concerns are, and how we can work as a movement to improve the project for all.

[Also a part of the Technology track.]

Qn. How does your session relate to the event themes: Diversity, Collaboration Future?

Wikifunctions and particularly Abstract Wikipedia are key parts of the movement’s work to support the future of collaboration across languages, communities, and cultures. It’s vital that contributors from across the movement can learn about and participate in the project to ensure we include all of our communities, not just a few members from the large wikis.

Qn. What is the experience level needed for the audience for your session?

Everyone can participate in this session

Qn. What is the most appropriate format for this session?

  •   Onsite in Singapore
  •   Remote online participation, livestreamed
  •   Remote from a satellite event
  •   Hybrid with some participants in Singapore and others dialing in remotely
  •   Pre-recorded and available on demand
