Abstract & description
editAbstract
edit“How might we equip people who are new with the policy know-how they need to publish edits they are proud of projects find useful?”
In this interactive session, members of the Editing Team will share what we learned about the above through the initial Edit Check experiment [i] and facilitate a conversation to help determine what we might explore next.
Description
editProjects need to moderate edits at the rate they are being made. The question is “How?”
At Wikimania 2021, staff and volunteers came together to start a conversation about the above. [i]
In 2022, the Edit Check experiment began to apply some of the ideas that surfaced in 2021.[ii]
In 2023, we’ll come together again to share what we’ve learned through the Edit Check experiment and open up a conversation about what we – staff and volunteers – might consider experimenting with next all in service of evolving towards a future where: 1) People who are new are motivated and equipped to publish edits that improve Wikipedia, wherever they are 2) Experienced volunteers are confident enough in the quality of edits people are using the Movement’s existing editing interfaces to publish to experiment with introducing new ones
Further details
editQn. How does your session relate to the event themes: Diversity, Collaboration Future?
This session falls at the intersection of Wikimania 2023’s themes of diversity, collaboration, and future.
It will create space for volunteers and staff to look back on the Movement’s past and continuing efforts to moderate edits as a way into generating ideas for how we might bring contribution opportunities to “tomorrow’s” volunteers in places where they are spending their time “today.”
