Abstract

edit

Using a downloaded csv file for a particular taxon author, we would use the csv file to find the authors and dates for a taxon together with the original paper. The results would be uploaded to wikidata as qualifiers (author & year) for the taxon name, and the original text would be given as a reference for the name. Format: roundtable tutorial/ workshop

Description

edit

Using a downloaded csv file for a particular taxon author, we would use the csv file to find the authors and dates for a taxon together with the original paper. This is done via openRefine and reconciliation of the original taxon name. Facetting allows simple segmentation of the data to permit the original paper to be found, and finding the original paper permits the finding of the authority name. The aim is to show a simple workflow which enhances a taxon's wikidata.

Qn. How does your session relate to the event themes: Diversity, Collaboration Future?

The work flow is valid regardless of language. With new species being discovered every year by Chinese, Vietnamese and other scientists from non-European backgrounds, the techniques used are applicable to papers and scientists whose work is less accessible to Europeans/

Qn. What is the experience level needed for the audience for your session?

Some experience will be needed

Qn. What is the most appropriate format for this session?

  •   Onsite in Singapore
  •   Remote online participation, livestreamed
  •   Remote from a satellite event
  •   Hybrid with some participants in Singapore and others dialing in remotely
  •   Pre-recorded and available on demand
