Description
editThe aim of the session is to present the Movement Charter content published by the Drafting Committee and gather input and feedback from Wikimania participants to either validate or improve the content. The session will help to create clarity and shared understanding regarding the expected future roles and responsibilities in the movement.
The session will start with a short presentation of the content by the committee members followed by an open discussion to surface key ideas and insights as well as concerns and observations from the participants. The session will conclude with summarizing the key points and clarifying the next steps on the work of the “Roles & Responsibilities” chapter.
The “Roles and Responsibilities” chapter of the Movement Charter will provide a definition of Roles and Responsibilities of the movement entities, including future roles and responsibilities of current entities (Foundation, affiliates, project communities, committees) and proposed future entities (Global Council, Hubs). The objective of the chapter is to ensure the clarity, shared understanding, and the cohesion of the roles and responsibilities of each entity.
The focus of the “Roles and Responsibilities” chapter is on the key domaines laid out in the recommendation:
- Safe and collaborative environments
- Revenue generation across the movement
- Common direction for resource allocation
- Collaboration across the communities
- Expectations for participation and rights of participants
Further details
editQn. How does your session relate to the event themes: Diversity, Collaboration Future?
The Movement Charter is a Movement Strategy initiative proposed by the recommendation “Ensure Equity in Decision-Making”. The aim of the Wikimedia 2030 Movement Strategy process has been to reimagine the collective future of the movement with a focus on better collaboration across the movement and embracing the diversity of perspectives present across the movement stakeholders. As a result, with the aim to define the future roles and responsibilities, mutual accountabilities, and ways of working in the movement, the Movement Charter is intrinsically linked with the theme of Wikimania this year.
