Abstract & description
editAbstract
editThis panel will discuss all the relationship between the Wikimedia Foundation and the Wikimedia communities: why we sometimes don’t agree, what we could do about it, and what work is happening behind the scenes at the Wikimedia Foundation.
Description
editThe Wikimedia Foundation and some of the Wikimedia communities, or part of the Wikimedia communities, sometimes find themselves in opposition to each other. The common goal is the same, but how we see getting there differs. This panel of 3–4 persons will discuss the reasons for this gap and the shared understanding or lack of shared understanding. Why do we end up here? Do we perceive what is happening differently? A good number of Wikimedia Foundation staff have been active in the community longer than they have been part of the Foundation; how does this affect their ability to work with everyone involved?
The focus will be on the work behind the scenes at the Wikimedia Foundation trying to bridge that gap – an open, honest conversation.
Further details
editQn. How does your session relate to the event themes: Diversity, Collaboration Future?
It’s central to how we can collaborate. A functional relationship between the Wikimedia Foundation and the various Wikimedia communities is key to how we move forward, and avoid spending our energy disagreeing on how to do so.
