Abstract & description
editAbstract
editThe Afrika Baraza at Wikimania intends to provide a space for Africans to discuss and take the conversations from subsequent editions of the Afrika Baraza further into workshops and practical work sessions to take action on some of the key topics/issues lingering from the preceding virtual events while bringing a taste of African culture to Singapore.
Description
editAfrika Baraza is a virtual meeting place of ideas and an open forum for Africans to discuss, collaborate and act on issues and projects that are of impact to communities in the continent. It is a collaborative project/initiative between WISCOM (the steering committee for the continent) and the Movement Communications team at the WMF. The project seeks to create a two-way decision-making dialogue with under-represented groups/communities.
Wikimania 2023 will be happening a month after the 2nd edition of the forum, which provides a great space to convene the African Baraza in person as a side event; that will bring together all African Wikimedians who will be attending Wikimania 2023. The Afrika Baraza at Wikimania intends to provide a space for Africans to not just discuss but take the conversations further into workshops and actually work on some of the key topics/issues lingering from the preceding virtual events while bringing a taste of African culture to Singapore. The idea is to step the work up a notch to prepare the ground for conclusive actions on these issues/topics at the 3rd Afrika Baraza of the year and prepare for a showcase of the progress of work at the upcoming Wiki Indaba 23.
This submission seeks to advance the following: A venue for collaboration (collaborative space) amongst African community leads and members for 2 days at Wikimania. Co-creating something tangible on issues/ topics emanating from previous Indaba to take forward into WikiIndaba 23
