Abstract

Join members of the Wikimedia Sound Logo team to learn about the sound logo, how to use it and to inform the community usage guidelines for the Sound of All Human Knowledge.

Description

edit

The aim of this workshop is for community members to learn about the sound logo and begin to use it well. Members of the Sound Logo team will take attendees through some of the patterns that emerged in how contestants interpreted Wikimedia through sound, how the team got from the winning submission to the registered trademarked sound logo and introduce the community usage guidelines. During the Q&A section, the team invite community questions but also invite community answers to the question “how else would you use the sound logo?” with the objective of better informing the usage guidelines. We ask Wikimedians to come to this workshop equipped with answers to this very important question.

Qn. How does your session relate to the event themes: Diversity, Collaboration Future?

For many people, seeking information has brought us to listening experiences, from podcasts to virtual voice assistants. Content from Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects – the contributions of hundreds of thousands of volunteers for more than twenty years – is everywhere too, but not identified correctly in audio-only settings. To address this gap, the Wikimedia Foundation created a global contest to find a sound logo, the Sound of All Human Knowledge.

As we move towards implementation of the sound logo, we are inviting our diverse community to contribute current and future use cases that will collaboratively inform the community usage guidelines.

Qn. What is the experience level needed for the audience for your session?

Everyone can participate in this session

Qn. What is the most appropriate format for this session?

  •   Onsite in Singapore
  •   Remote online participation, livestreamed
  •   Remote from a satellite event
  •   Hybrid with some participants in Singapore and others dialing in remotely
  •   Pre-recorded and available on demand
