Abstract & description
editAbstract
editWikisource is an online library of free-content texts that anyone can edit. It is a sister project of Wikipedia and one of the oldest Wikimedia projects. In this 60-minute meetup, we will share our experiences and best practices, and discuss the current challenges and opportunities for the Wikisource project.
Description
editWikisource is a valuable resource for preserving and sharing the cultural heritage of humanity. It hosts texts in many languages, formats, and domains, from ancient manuscripts to modern books, from poetry to sheet music, from legal documents to periodicals. Wikisource also supports the creation of free, scan-backed ebooks that can be read online or offline.
In this meetup, we will:
Address some of the common questions and issues that arise on Wikisource Identify some of the gaps and needs that Wikisource faces as a project Brainstorm ideas for improving Wikisource’s outreach, collaboration, and impact
This meetup is open to anyone who is interested in Wikisource, whether they are new or experienced users, editors, researchers, educators, readers or enthusiasts. We hope to create a friendly and engaging space where we can learn from each other and celebrate the diversity and richness of Wikisource.
Further details
editQn. How does your session relate to the event themes: Diversity, Collaboration Future?
The session relates to the event themes in the following ways:
Diversity: Wikisource embraces the diversity of texts, languages, and cultures that make up the world’s literary heritage. It also welcomes contributors from different backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences to join the project and share their knowledge. By participating in Wikisource, we can learn from each other and celebrate our differences.
Collaboration: Wikisource is a collaborative project that relies on the collective efforts of volunteers, partners, and allies. It also fosters collaboration across Wikimedia projects, such as Wikipedia, Wikidata, and Commons, by providing sources, references, and media. By working together on Wikisource, we can improve the quality and accessibility of free knowledge for everyone.
Future: Wikisource is a forward-looking project that aims to preserve and disseminate the cultural heritage of humanity for future generations. It also supports the creation of free, scan-backed ebooks that can be read on any device and platform. By innovating on Wikisource, we can shape the future of digital libraries and education.
