editAbstract
editBharatanatyam is one of the oldest (considered to be over 2000 years old) among the eight classical dances of India and the most popular forms that originated in Tanjore district in Tamil Nadu, India. The origin of this dance can be traced to the sage Bharata Muni's Natyashastra. Initially this dance used to be performed in temples. The style was kept alive by the devadasis. Afterwards it shifted to king’s court and now in the theater. It is performing art and has to be learned by Gurus.
