Abstract
edit Moleskine Foundation program that uses open, accessible knowledge to unlock creativity, encourage plurality, and enhance agency. Within this program, which employs multiple formats, the WAE Higher Education Initiative was conceived with Fondazione Aurora. The aim here is to engage students who speak African languages and who are already scholarship recipients, to produce articles on the Wikipedia platform.
In the creation of such a program, it became apparent the great disparity in knowledge production activity on and off the African continent. And this disparity is greater when focusing on knowledge created concerning topics about Africa, its people, cultures and histories. Lastly this gap is wider still when considering all the above but doing so in African languages.
Acknowledging the youth as potential knowledge creators, a solution lies in equipping them with the necessary creative and technical skills to make content for their language communities. In doing so we recognise a network of stakeholders are necessary to engage and get on board. If we are able to lay the foundations, include the right stakeholders, and empower the youth adequately, we have the potential to boost knowledge creation in African languages and create a new generation of critical thinkers who are ready to take action to change their world.
Learning Outcomes
editAt the end of the session, the audience is expected to takeaway:
- how to foster cooperation between people from different spheres of life, countries and cultures.
- how to create and utilize partnerships.
