Abstract

edit

This fun, engaging social hour will be a chance for newcomers to hear encouraging community voices from the movement in allyship with the African Diaspora. Like AfroCROWD mixers in the past (our year-end celebrations for example), this event is a celebratory time to look back at the work of AfroCROWD, but also a time to connect with partners and others in the movement and beyond on what lies ahead. We plan, for example, to converse with partnering members of groups like Wikimedians of the Caribbean, Wikimedia Nigeria Foundation and other projects like Wiki Vibrance and partners in exciting efforts taking place in relation to Africa. We will also hear from African developers of the language game Lulu. Bring a snack and a beverage for a toast to Wikimania 2022 and making it to Wikimania again during these times as a global community. This will be a friendly space where we plan to use Ice Breakers and other connection activities to help both newcomers and anyone interested in engagement with or in the African Diaspora community on Wikipedia and Wikimedia to meet, learn about and support each other in our allied efforts.
