What URL do we provide for an unconference session for people to connect to?

edit

I notice that a number of the sessions include a URL to connect to the session? Where do these come from? Thanks Kerry Raymond (talk) 09:40, 3 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hi! It will be taken place on "Remo." It seems that there will be a space on Remo for each session. Ripunn (talk) 06:43, 8 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
I also have the same question: What link should I share and can I share a link to the specific building and floor (e.g. Building 6, Floor 1). It's getting pretty close to the date! Evolution and evolvability (talk) 04:31, 13 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
Hi folks - here's the answer I put on the main talk page:
Hi -- you can use this URL to connect to Building 6. It doesn't look like you can create a direct URL to a specific table/floor, but you can give instructions: Building 6, floor 10, table T-10 for instance. There are 10 floors. For help on connecting, see this faq and you can see what's available here. NOTE that only people who are already registered for the conference can join unconference tables (so you can't put the link on social media and invite non-registrants to join). Let me know if you have more questions. -- Phoebe (talk) 20:32, 13 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Indonesian translations don't appear

edit

Hello!

I tried to translate this page into Indonesian language a few minutes ago. Somehow, my translations do not appear in the corresponding page. Is there anything I missed? Thanks, ··· 🌸 Rachmat04 · 06:06, 13 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hi - I think there's a backlog in the cache with translations appearing - we were having some issues earlier too -- Phoebe (talk) 20:33, 13 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Other external events to list on the grid?

edit

I've created the rightwardmost column to also include externally-hosted events (not in Remo) on the grid. I only added the column for Saturday, because we have only had one such event so far, though would be glad to have that column on other days as well.--Pharos (talk) 01:44, 14 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Video Streaming

edit

Hi I will like to find out how we will be able to stream our unconference presentation Leveraging on Local Holidays as a Topical Campaign to Bridge Content Gaps on Wikipedia and Using Kiwix as a Tool to Enhance Equitable Access to Educational Resources During the Pandemic by OFWA tomorrow, we are uncertain about it, quick feedback would be awesome. Scheduling Unconference sessions next time

edit

@Phoebe, @Pharos, anyone else who's interested:

Growth and Editing hosted a panel discussion on Saturday, and we used the Unconference space as an extended Q&A session. It worked really well. We had more than 20 people join (about a third of the people at the panel discussion), so we needed the overflow table. It ended up running for two hours (nobody else was on the calendar for that floor), until the Unconference space closed for the night. This extended discussion time worked out because nobody else had scheduled the space after us.

My experience on another day, when volunteer-me hosted a Wikivoyage chat, was that the half-hour session was possibly convenient, but also a bit constraining. The Wikidata group had to stop their discussion because it was our turn, and we had to stop because a third group was scheduled to follow us. We didn't really need more than half an hour, but looking back on it, I might have deliberately chosen a different slot/floor if I'd thought about it.

My suggestions for next time include:

  • One-hour default time slots (or perhaps a mix of 30-minute and 60-minute slots)
  • Asking all presenters if they want to reserve an unconference space after their presentations, or if they'll be at the Community Village (put it in the template for the session page, or have a new section for ==Related events==?)
  • Tell people that if they need more time, they can schedule back-to-back slots.

As a side note, I also thought that the Unconference space worked better for us than the Community Village. They're not that different, in practice, but it seemed more popular and was better suited to larger groups. Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 17:38, 23 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
