Session Outcomes

  • How do you manage conflicting versions of historical maps?
    • Infrastructure already contains the concept of timeline, but we consider that there is a sacred timeline that repsresents how things are considered right now the correct one, but it can change, and we have variations on that timeline, enabling us to say that at a given point a specific source says that a well-defined thing happened in a certain time and place, but that needs to be matched with more information, so we need to think about how and what the sources say about the events and the elements around the maps themselves.
  • How fine-grained/local/comprehensive do you envision the map to be?
    • Idea is to be as fine-grained as possible. If we have precise data we will be more precise. considering the visualization is based on vector data and the fact that the bigger part of the work is done at server-level optimizations, the data will be simply cut off at low levels of zoom and become available if the zoom levels are detailed enough.

I'm planning to attend this session live!
