Visitors to Thailand must obtain a visa from one of the unless they come from a visa-exempt country or a country whose citizens are eligible to obtain visas on arrival.[1]
Thailand currently offers visa-free travel to nationals of 64 countries and territories. The Thai government maintains bilateral agreements on visa waivers with some of these countries. Nationals of 18 countries can obtain a visa on arrival.

Recent policy changes
editSince May 2014, there was a brief crackdown on visa runs, meaning that if foreigners wish to re-enter Thailand after their visa-free or visa on arrival period has expired they have to obtain a visa in advance, or remain outside Thailand at least for one night.[2] In August 2014, the Thailand Prime Minister ordered the Immigration Police to be more flexible as the strict application of the law was affecting schools and the tourist industry.[3] On 31 October 2018 it was announced that within 30 days (by the end of November 2018), overstay visas will no longer be allowed, and there will be no remaining overstayers in the kingdom by that date.[4]

editFor countries that require a visa, please reach the Embassy of Thailand in the country (or representative country) of your residence. Refer to general procedures and documentary requirements for applying for tourist visa.
For countries that are listed as visa on arrival, and will arrive at Thailand's international airports, please use the Immigration Bureau Thailand website to submit an application. Otherwise, download this blank form and submit the filled form at the Embassy of Thailand in the country of your residence.

editIf you are attending Wikimania 2020 and require a visa, the Wikimedia Foundation can provide you with a letter to support your visa application. However, please note that beyond providing a supporting letter, the Wikimedia Foundation is unable to influence the visa application process.

When writing to request a supporting letter, you must include your full name, home address, and passport number in the body of the email. Please do not include a PDF of your passport, as attachments will not be opened. If you know the address of your visa application centre and/or the name of the Swedish official processing your application, please include that as well.
Please allow plenty of time when requesting your visa letter before your visa application is due, as the WMF does not prioritize urgent requests. Requests for invitation letters will be filled in the order that they are received.
