Community Growth/Something small for everyone: quick contribution ideas with Wikidata

Description

Wikidata opens a ton of new ways people can contribute to our movement. There are new tools, new content, new entry points and more. This session will give you ideas you can take home to your community to get people involved through small tasks in their context. These ideas will be especially relevant for local community organizers, leaders of wiki projects and organizers of editathons and contests.

Relationship to the theme

The organisers of the community growth space believe that the space will address the following Sustainable Development Goals:

9 Industry, innovation and infrastructure
10 Reduced inequalities
11 Sustainable cities and communities
16 Peace, justice and strong institutions
17 Partnerships for the goals.

This session will address the conference theme — Wikimedia, Free Knowledge and the Sustainable Development Goals — in the following manner: This session will help people learn how to use Wikidata to reduce inequalities by better highlighting biases and gaps in our content. It will also add to innovation by highlighting new ways of contributing to our projects. And last but not least it will hopefully show paths towards making especially the smaller ones of our communities more sustainable.

This session will address the topics of the Growth space in the following manner: The session will highlight new ways of contributions that become possible with Wikidata and how to use them for off- and on-wiki engagement.

Session outcomes

At the end of the session, the following will have been achieved: The participants will have a list of ideas they can take back to their community and easily apply for their editathons, wiki projects and contests.

Relationship with the organisers of the space

The organisers of the community growth space wish to provide any necessary support to presenters and participants that they may need and also wish to have an active role in shaping the content of the space to maximise the benefit of all attendees. Please let us know if you would appreciate any help, and if you consent to constructive suggestions from the organiser team that would allow the largest amount of people to share and benefit from each other's contributions.
